Franz Niederberger Sr., age 98 of Monroe, died on Thursday, January 1, 2009 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Franz was born on June 25, 1910 in Switzerland. He came to the United States in 1929 and settled in the Green County area. Franz and Ann Lottenbach were married in June of 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Franz was a cheesemaker since 1929 in Iowa, Illinois and Wisconsin, until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of St. Victor Catholic Church.
Surviving is his wife, Ann of Monroe; daughter, Ann (Dave) Haroldson of Monroe; son, Franz (Jill) Niederberger Jr., of Pine River; grandchildren, Ryan (Jasmine) Haroldson, Justin (Amber Halvorson) Haroldson, Brent (Brieanna Perock) Haroldson, Brenda (Bob Tredinnick) Haroldson, Wendy (Brad) Mevis; granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie; great-grandsons, Kaeden Niederberger, Brady Haroldson; step-granddaughter, Judi (John) Turner; and step-great-grandsons, Riley, Conner, and Caleb. He was predeceased by his parents; a grandson, Paul; 2 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Private family services will be held on Sunday.
