Franklyn C. Dillon, age 79 of Monroe, died at his home on Monday, June 13, 2016. Frank was born on July 23, 1936 in Monroe, the son of Chester C. and Helen (Shea) Dillon. He attended Simmons Rural School, graduated from Monroe High School in 1954, and attended U.W. Farm Short Course from 1954 until 1956. He married Susan C. Zettle on June 7, 1958. In 1958 Frank joined the National Guard and served with Company B, Second Battalion, 128th Infantry, 32nd Division. He was active duty for training from 1958-1959 and from 1961-1962 in Fort Lewis, WA during the Berlin Crisis. He served in the National Guards until retiring as a Sergeant Major in November, 1990, earning the Legion of Merit Service Medal. Frank worked for Green County ASCS/FSA, retiring as Executive Director in March, 2000 after 42 years of employment. He was a member of the H-K-B 1158 Veteran Assn., 32nd Division Veterans Assn., Monroe American Legion Post #84, WI Assn. FSA County Office Retirees, WRASCOE, and the Monroe High School Sports Booster Club. Frank was a fixture umpiring and coaching baseball and softball in Monroe for 20 years, coached Monroe Optimist Teen League Baseball from 1982-1988, and was a loyal Badger, Packer, and Monroe sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Dillon of Monroe; four children, Debra (Jeff) Jansen of Sussex, Kevin (Jennifer) of Waukesha, Brian (Tracy) of Monroe, and Denise (Greg) Quinn of Verona; 12 grandchildren; and two great grandsons; two sisters, Maureen (Gene) Theiler of Milwaukee, Bette (Dick) Hassenfelt of Janesville; and two brothers, Terry (Darlyn) of Brodhead, and Tim of Monroe. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Chester Jr. in 1973.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. Private family services will be followed by interment with military honors in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe.
