Frances Smith was born December 27, 1910 in Wilson, Wisconsin. After a rich, fulfilling and healthy life of 98 years she left this life for her heavenly home on February 16, 2009. She was met by her parents, Mary and Frank Smith; her brothers and sisters, Elmer, Stewart, Leone Phillips, Nell Morell; and her beloved husband, Bernard "Bub" Smith who died in 1975.
Her life was one of dedication to her family and to her students. Her teaching career began in 1931 in Beaver Valley, a one room schoolhouse south of Glenwood City, Wisconsin. Other Wisconsin locations where she taught were Baldwin, Jordan Center and Argyle. She and her family moved to Nogales, Arizona in 1961 where she taught in the Nogales Public Schools and Sacred Heart School. Her teaching career spanned over 50 years when she retired in 1987. In her retirement Frances continued her service to others by establishing a telephone reassurance program called Telecare which celebrated its 30th anniversary this year. Frances touched and transformed the lives of countless individuals over the years.
Frances is survived by her son, Jim and twins, Jerry and Kay Frances Smith, who all live in Arizona. Memorial and graveside services were held in her honor in both Tucson and Nogales in Arizona.
"Be not burdened by times of sorrow. I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow. Lift up your heart and share with me. God wanted me now. He set me free."
