BRODHEAD - Forrest L. Zimmerman, age 87, of Monroe, formerly of Juda, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was born on August 8, 1927 on the home farm in Spring Grove Township, the son of Milo and Eunice (Mather) Zimmerman. He married Marjorie Budd on February 6, 1954 at the Monroe United Methodist Church. She passed away on February 23, 2010.
Forrest attended Oakley Country School and graduated from Brodhead High School in 1945. He and his wife farmed in Oakley until 2006. He dug graves in the surrounding area for over 50 years. Forrest loved to play cards, play and collect violins and dance. He was a member of the Oakley Church.
He is survived by his children: Vickie (Ron) Gobeli, Monroe, Kim Zimmerman, Iowa, Julie Gallien, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren: Kelly Pulcine, Kimberly (Brandon Lohaus) Gobeli, both of Monroe, Christopher (Amber) Zimmerman, Cross Plaines, WI; great-grandchildren, Alex Schneeberger, Aravah Lohaus, Kaia Pulcine, Elexis Pulcine, all of Monroe, Cameron Zimmerman, Cross Plains; and two sisters, Mary Ellen Phillips, Delavan, and Lauretta Johnson, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Lee Kelso, and brothers Merton and Lowell at birth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 3, 2015, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI with Chaplain Brian Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Oakley Union Cemetery, Oakley. Visitation will be held from 4 pm. until 6 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home. A memorial fund will be established.
