Florence Hefty

Florence Hefty, age 102 of Monticello, died Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at her home. Florence was born January 27, 1906 in the Town of Edson, Chippewa County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Ernest F. and Lucinda M. (Heeter) Henneman. She moved to Monroe in 1930 and graduated as a practical nurse from the Deaconess Hospital. She married Ernest Holcomb Jr. in 1931. He preceded her in death in 1935. Florence married Henry C. Hefty in 1938 and he died in 1978.

She and Henry farmed in Washington Township for 20 years and Florence worked as a nurse's aid at Pleasant View Nursing Home for 20 years. She was a member of Zwingli United Church of Christ of Monticello, Zwingli Friendship Circle, G.U.G.G., and the Washington Township Homemakers.

Survivors include a daughter, Helen (Charles) Rowland of Oregon, WI; a son, Gordon E. (Alice) Holcomb of Baton Rouge, LA; four grandchildren, Janette L. and Amy F. Holcomb, both of Baton Rouge, Michael (Rose Doucett) Rowland of Madison, and Laureen (Ralph) Handy of Oshkosh; three great-grandchildren, Charlie Rowland, Elijah and Sophia Handy; and many nieces, nephews, and their families.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Alice Robinson, Clara O'Neil, Emma Johnson, and Elva Baer; two brothers, Earl and Clyde Henneman; three nephews and several brothers and sisters-in-law. The family would like to thank Adeline Zoller, Florence's in-home caregiver for the past five years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at the Zwingli United Church of Christ with Rev. Lawrence Balleine officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. A visitation will be held at the church on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Florence's name to Zwingli United Church of Christ or Green County Humane Society. The Voegeli-Newcomer Funeral Home, Monticello, is assisting the family. To sign the online guest book or send a condolence go to www.newcomerfuneralhome.net
