Monroe Fire
MONROE — An odor of gas was reported at 8:37 a.m. Aug. 8 at the strip mall in the 100 block of South 8th Street. The plumbing fixtures in a vacant part of the property had dried up, causing a smell of sewer gas to come up through the pipes and spread to occupied parts of the building, including at Great Clips. The Monroe Fire Department advises residents and property owners to pour a couple of glasses of water down infrequently used drains to keep the sewer gas smell from coming up.
● Firefighters were paged to an apartment building on 3rd Ave for a fire alarm at about 4:40 p.m. Aug. 19. Plastic in an oven was burning, causing smoke. No injuries and no damages were reported. Firefighters ventilated the apartment to remove smoke.
