NEW GLARUS - Eloise Jane Strickler, age 89, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2008. She was born on May 28, 1918 to her parents Verne and Geraldine (Johns) Marshall in Blanchardville, Wisconsin. Eloise attended Blanchardville schools and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. She married Robert Strickler on December 30, 1948 in Blanchardville, WI. Eloise was an elementary school teacher for many years teaching in California and Wisconsin. Last teaching in Belleville and New Glarus from where she retired in 1984. Robert and Eloise also built the Swiss Maid in New Glarus in 1962. Eloise was a member of the Swiss United Church of Christ. She was also a member of Ladies Aid, Green County Retired Teachers, Eastern Star, and New Glarus Legion Auxiliary. Eloise was a charter member of the Edelweiss Country Club carding hole-in-one in 1984 and a die-hard Cubs fan.
Eloise is survived by her two daughters, Susan E. (Fred) Meyer of Spokane, WA and Sally (Gif) Hoesly of New Glarus, WI; three grandchildren, Heidi Brink-Herling of New York City, NY, Paul R. Hoesly of New Glarus, WI, and Heather Hoesly of Lafayette, IN; a brother-in-law, Palmer (Ruth) Strickler of New Glarus, WI; a sister-in-law, Barbara Sipp of Madison, WI; and four granddogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Gerry Marshall; husband, Robert; son, John in infancy; and a brother, Verne "Bud" Marshall Jr.
At her request a private funeral service will be held.
A memorial fund will be established.
