Elmer C. "Mike" Martin Jr., age 68 of Rockford, IL, formerly of Monroe, died Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at Swedish American Hospital in Rockford.
Mike was born December 17, 1941 in Browntown, the son of Elmer Martin Sr. and Arline (Grady) Martin Kubly. He graduated from Monroe High School and from 1964-1966 Mike served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was employed as a mechanic for Monroe Cab Company, worked at Value Village and various other jobs in Monroe. He moved to Rockford where he worked at Cadbury Candy Co. in Loves Park.
Mike is survived by twelve brothers and sisters, Dale (Hatsue) of Portage, Gene (Pam) of Nevada, Frieda (Scott) Douglas of Brodhead, Bruce of Rockford, Susan (Marshall) Venden of Monroe, Jack of Monticello, Barbara Conklin of Monroe, Jayne Martin of Austin, MN, Celeste (Jack) Witt of Sun Prairie, Louis (Laurie) of Blanchardville, Clarence (Sue) of Monroe, and Ivan (Julie) Kubly Jr. of Madison. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Kathleen and Florence Martin.
A celebration of Mike's life will be held on Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Monroe V.F.W. A memorial fund will be established in his name. To send a condolence to the family go to www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
