Ellanor L. Leach, age 91 of Monroe, died peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at Pleasant View Nursing Home three days shy of her 92nd birthday.
Ellanor was born May 7, 1916 in Torrington, CT, the daughter of Robert P. and Alosia (Botsford) Lamb.
She was raised in Elgin, IL and earned a bachelors degree at Oberlin College, Ohio which led to a career as a commercial artist. Ellanor worked in that capacity for advertising in Des Moines, IA, Milwaukee, WI, and New Orleans, LA. She married Dr. Byron E. Leach in 1943.
She and Byron enjoyed traveling to Paris, Sweden, Austria, and Switzerland. In later years, Ellanor worked and then retired from the blood donor center of Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN.
She had resided at Twining Valley in Monroe until entering Pleasant View in March of this year.
Survivors include two sons, Bruce A. (Janice) Leach of Albany, and Mark E. Leach of Birmingham, AL; two grandchildren, Erich A. Leach and Kristina M. Leach; five great-grandchildren as well as her dear nieces and nephews. She is further survived by her lifelong friend, Mary Byers of Asheville, N.C. and Mary's children who were truly like family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Byron in 1978; a son, Craig W. Leach; and two sisters, Roberta Olmstead and Jayne Althen.
A Celebration of Ellanor's life will be held at a later date. The family wishes that memorials in Ellanor's name be sent to the charity of the donor's choice. The NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, is assisting the family.
