Elenor D. McGinnis, age 85 of Monroe, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at her home.

Elenor was born on December 8, 1925, in Belmont Township, the daughter of Herman and Victoria (Sutton) Wedige.

She married John A. "Jack" McGinnis on March 11, 1944 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Gratiot. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2008. Elenor was a member of St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Monroe and a former member of St. Joseph Parish, Gratiot.

Elenor and John farmed for many years on the home farm near Gratiot before retiring to Monroe in the early 1980's.

She was a great cook and loved to cook and bake for the many family get-togethers, which everyone looked forward to. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed an occasional trip to the casino in Dubuque.

Elenor is survived by her four children, Carol (Donald) Friske of Monroe, Thomas (Mary) McGinnis of Gratiot, Marilyn (George) Bumsted of Brodhead, and Greg (Sue) McGinnis of Monroe; seven grandchildren, Lisa (Luke) Thompson, Todd Friske, Scott McGinnis, Stephanie (Erik) Hillstrom, Craig (Mindy) McGinnis, Tamara and Taylor McGinnis; four great-grandchildren, Alison and Mallory Thompson, Owen Hillstrom, and Maddox McGinnis; two sisters, Mary Hying of Belmont, and Jane Bruun of Hazel Green; two brothers, Melvin (Carmen) Wedige of San Antonio, TX, Gene (Barbara) Wedige of Jonesboro, AR; sister-in-law, Ila Wedige of Lena, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sisters, Katherine Boatman, Sr. M. Victoria Wedige, Wilma Gentry; and three brothers, Herman, Wilbur, and Jerry Wedige.

Private family funeral services will be held with burial in St. Joseph Catholic Church Cemetery, Gratiot. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family. To send an expression of sympathy go to www.newcomerfuneralhome.net.
