Eleanor J. Lanz, age 97 of Monroe, died Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. Eleanor was born in Monroe on February 14, 1920, the daughter of Floyd and Jessie (Wunschel) Pyle. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1938 and married Frederick F. "Fritz" Lanz on January 17, 1943. Eleanor worked at the Swiss Colony for over 30 years. She and Fritz moved to Palm Harbor, FL in 1984 and returned to Monroe in 2010. She was a past president of the American Legion Auxiliary to Zilmer Riley Post #84, Order of the Easter Star, Women of the Moose #599, and over the years was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church. While in Florida, Eleanor was secretary of the Woman's Club and Midwest Club, served on the Board of Directors of the Homeowners Association, and volunteered at Highland Lakes Elementary School. She loved sewing, playing bridge, dancing, and traveling.

Survivors include two sons, Frederick H. (Barbara) Lanz of Minneapolis, MN and Jeffrey D. Lanz (Dolores Drewelow) of Monroe; four grandchildren, Courtney (Glen) Close, Eric (Mage) Lanz, Lynsey (Mat) LeDuc, and Zachary Lanz; a great grandson, Niko Lanz; a brother, Verle (Norma) Pyle of Spring Hill, FL; a brother-in-law, Robert (Elaine) Lanz of Tarzana, CA; a sister, Helen Lavasseur of Madison; and a dear cousin, Nancy (Chuck) Koch of Monroe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz, on May 18, 2012; and a brother-in-law, Bud Lanz.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, February 1, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend John Tabaka officiating. A memorial fund will be established in Eleanor's name for Grace Lutheran Church and Friends of Pleasant View. The Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, is assisting the family.
