Edwin F. Saxer, age 84 of Monticello, died at his home on Monday, April 11, 2016. Edwin was born on March 24, 1932 in Mount Pleasant Township, the son of John and Anna (Gerber) Saxer. He entered the U.S. Air Force on Feb. 5, 1952. He attained the rank of Airman First Class during the Korean conflict and was honorably discharged on Feb. 4, 1956. Ed married Audrey Duerst on April 20, 1956. They farmed in Washington Township from 1959 until 1993. Ed was employed at Monroe Truck from 1993 until retiring in 2012. He was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ and Monticello American Legion Amstutz Marty Post #256. He loved time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ed was an avid card player, never turning down a game of euchre or yass. He also enjoyed deer hunting and trips to various casinos.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Audrey Saxer of Monticello; three children, Dale of Monroe, Diane (Mike) Higbie of Verona, and David of Monticello; two grandchildren, Jason (Natalie) Higbie and Heather (Fergus) Vass; three great grandsons, Callum and Malcolm Vass, and Dylan Higbie, all of Verona; and two brothers, Johnny and Harry Saxer, both of New Glarus. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Wilma Fosaaen and Hilda Wirth.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at the Zwingli United Church of Christ, Monticello, with Pastor Dan Yeazel officiating. Inurnment with military honors will follow in Highland Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be at the church on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
