CEDARVILLE - Duane E. Scheider, 87, of Cedarville, died Sunday, March 4, 2012, at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford. Born September 14, 1924 in Freeport, Duane was the son of Clifford and Naomi (Frank) Scheider. He was a 1942 graduate of Orangeville High School. On March 19, 1950, he married Alice Miller in Freeport, IL. Alice preceded him in death in 2006.

Duane farmed until the age of 58. He then worked at W.T. Rawleigh and Thermos and sold real estate until his retirement.

Throughout his life Duane loved to travel with his family, take fishing trips with his sons, and go deer hunting with his son Neal, which he was able to do through his 85th year. He was also a devoted fan of local sports, and spent countless hours watching fast pitch softball, football, and baseball games involving his sons and their families.

His memberships included, over 62 years as a member of Cedarville United Methodist Church where he was a devoted member of the church choir. He was also a member for over 60 years of Orangeville Masonic Lodge 687. In addition, Duane was a member of the Freeport Scottish Rite, the Stephenson County Farm Bureau, and the Cedarville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his sons, Joel (Bev) Scheider of Freeport and Neal Scheider of Cedarville; step grandchildren Adam (Katie) Bratley of Cedarville, Josh (Amber) Bratley of Cedarville, and step great grandchildren Ayden and Aleeah Bratley, one nephew Doug (Trish) Scheider of Freeport, 2 nieces Sue (Tom) Odom of Dallas Texas and Leanne (Laverne) Reidelbaugh of Dakota, one brother in law Karl Erickson of Freeport, and one sister in law Dorothy Miller of Freeport; 3 great nephews; 1 great niece; 1 great-great nephew; and 2 great-great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 1 brother Rev. Norman Scheider, sister in laws Kathryn Scheider, Arlene Erickson, and Fay Miller, and two brothers in-law Chester and Kenneth Miller.

Duane's family would like to say a special thank you to Drs. Alan Workman, Farouk Khan, Bhadresh Patel, and Larry Brinkman. Together, they worked as a team to support our father and his positive approach to life in a way that allowed him to enjoy many years of additional living with the independence, dignity, and self-respect that were at his core. This is a gift for which we will never be able to adequately say thank you.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2012, at Cedarville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Cedarville Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday March 8, 2012, at Walker Mortuary. The visitation will be followed by the Masonic service at 7 p.m. conducted by the Orangeville Masonic Lodge 687.

A memorial fund has been established.
