Dr. William Burton Frey

Dr. William Burton Frey, age 95, died Friday, December 21, 2012 at his home in Monroe, WI. He was born on December 2, 1917 in Fox Lake, WI; the son of William and Elsie (Uber) Frey. He graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1935, received his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Minnesota. Bill served as a resident and chief resident at Milwaukee County Children's Hospital and completed a Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. He served in the Army Medical Corps from 1944 to 1946. Dr. Frey was a Pediatrician in South Bend, Indiana from 1948 to 1971, then practiced at the Monroe Clinic from 1971 to 1984, when he retired.

He married Mary Evelyn Walsh on July 8, 1950 in Fox Lake, WI. He was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Monroe, a member of the State Medical Society for 50 years, and a member of the Green County Medical Society.

Bill is survived by his wife Mary of Monroe, four children: Mary (John F.) Deininger of Waunakee; WI, Dr. John (Kathy) Frey of Monroe; WI, Susan (Ed) Elder of Madison; WI, and Betsy (Bill) Randolph of Belle Mead, NJ; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William E. Frey; a brother, Wilber Frey; and a sister Bernice Faber.

Private services were held on December 26 at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Sun Prairie, WI with Fr. Mike Tess and Fr. Brian Backstrand officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Hartford, WI. A Celebration of William's life will be held at- The Ludlow Mansion, in Monroe, on Thursday, December 27 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Memorials may be made in Dr. Frey's name to either the Green County Humane Society building fund or the Monroe Clinic Hospice. Shriner Hager Gohlke funeral home is assisting the family.
