Dr. Donald E. McClanathan, 92, Winslow, passed away May 8, 2011 at Adventist Glen Oaks Hospital in Glendale Heights, IL. He was born on April 1, 1919 in Westfield, IL to George and Eva (Wheat) McClanathan. Donald attended high school in Sterling, IL and Freeport, IL, graduating in 1936. He obtained a Bachelors degree from Purdue Univ. in 1941. Donald married Jeannine Halberg on March 7, 1951 in Sterling, IL. He graduated from the Univ. of Illinois College of Medicine in 1944 with an MD degree.

In 1952, Donald completed his medical internship and surgical residency from Cook Co. Hospital in Chicago, IL. Donald was a member of the American College Surgeons, Board Certified, and a member of the Rotary in St. Petersburg, FL. He attended the East Jordan United Methodist Church in Sterling, IL and Terra Ceia United Methodist Church in Terra Ceia, FL. His military service included duty as Public Health Officer in a Military Government Team Occupation Forces in Japan as a (SCAP) Special Command Asia and Pacific. In 1952, Donald settled in St. Petersburg, FL to practice surgery. He was a staff member of Bay Front Hospital, St. Anthony's Hospital, All Children's Hospital and Palms of Pasadena in St. Petersburg, FL. He held the position as Hospital Vice Chief of Staff, and Chief of Staff at St. Anthony's Hospital. In 1968 became the Chief of staff at Bay Front Hospital and then managed the Emergency Dept. until he retired in 1988.

Donald is survived by his; wife Jeannine of 60 years, 4 children, 9 grand children and 4 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the East Jordan Methodist Church in Sterling, IL. Internment will take place at the East Jordan Cemetery, Sterling, IL. Rev. Lee McClanathan will officiate the service. In lieu of Flowers a memorial has been established in his name for the East Jordan U.M.Church 22027 Polo Road, Sterling, IL 61081.
