Dorothy M. Holmes, age 81 of Monroe, died Thursday, December 30, 2010 at her home. Dorothy was born February 13, 1929 in South Wayne, WI, the daughter of Fay and Edna (Neuenschwander) Weckerly.

She graduated from Mineral Point High School and attended business college in Madison. Dorothy and Lloyd L. Holmes were married on April 11, 1947 in Monroe. Dorothy worked with Lloyd in the family business and also was employed for 20 years at the Commercial Bank in Monroe before retiring in 1988.

She was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church where she served on the Peace and Friendship Circle and taught Sunday School. She was a member and past president of the Green County Historical Society, Monroe Woman's Club, Monroe Country Club, Swiss Club, and was a charter member of the Monroe Jaycettes.

Dorothy was also a Christmas Stocking volunteer, an avid bridge player, and in her younger years was active in Girl Scouts of America with her daughters. She enjoyed reading, traveling, and counted cross-stitch.

She is survived by her mother, Edna Weckerly of Monroe; two daughters, Mary (Paul) Gullicksrud of Strum, WI, and Pamela (Jeff) Schmoldt of Janesville; a son-in-law, Dan Deener of Arkansas City, KS; seven grandchildren, Brent (Kathy) Deener of Wheaton, IL, Bradley (Julie) Deener of Windsor, CO, Brian (Tera) Gullicksrud of Strum, WI, Matthew Gullicksrud of Denver, CO, Sara (Chris) Meeks of Washington, D.C., Eric Schmoldt of Laramie, WY, and Kevin (Kimberly) Schmoldt of Shorewood, WI; four great-grandchildren, Eva Deener, Zoe, Skylar, and Annika Gullicksrud; and her brother, Eugene (Pat) Weckerly of Arcadia, CA. She was preceded in death by her father, Fay Weckerly; her husband, Lloyd Holmes; and a daughter, Linda Deener.

Memorial services will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Monroe United Methodist Church with Reverend Randy Booth officiating. Inurnment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 5, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in Dorothy's name to Monroe United Methodist Church, Green County Historical Society, or Monroe Clinic Hospice. Dorothy will be remembered for her strong sense of family, which she and Lloyd instilled in all of their children and grandchildren.

All family members were able to be together with Dorothy for Christmas Eve, one of her favorite days of the year.
