BRODHEAD - Dorothy J. Erickson, age 85, formerly of Brodhead, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010, at the Monroe Manor Nursing Home, Monroe, WI. She was born on June 30, 1925 in Brodhead, WI, the daughter of Fred O. and Madeline (Pfisterer) Kubly. She married Hervin E. Erickson on December 18, 1952 in Dubuque, IA. He passed away in 1981.
Dorothy did washing and ironing out of her home for many families in the Brodhead area during the 40+ years that she lived in Brodhead. After selling her home, Dorothy moved to Monroe and lived at the Churchill Woods Apartments until she moved to the Monroe Manor in 2008, following a stroke. Dorothy loved to bake and was well known for her homemade cookies, rosettes, and lefse. Over the years she crocheted, embroidered, crafted, and quilted many beautiful gifts that she shared with others. Dorothy also had a love for animals. Her last pet was her beloved cat Sugar. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Brodhead prior to moving to Monroe.
She is survived by a sister, Edith (Norman) Nall, Monroe, WI, two brothers, Robert O. (Shirley) Kubly, Monticello, WI, Herbert F. Kubly, Spring Green, WI, a half brother, Gordon Kilday, Fitchburg, WI, a brother-in-law, Thomas Runkle Jr., Monroe, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a sister, Lucile Runkle, a sister and brother-in-law, Zelma and Clarence Blumer, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Kilday.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 6, 2010, at the D.L. NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, BRODHEAD, WI, with Pastor Peder Johanson officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m., Saturday, until time of services at the funeral home.
