COTTAGE GROVE/SOUTH WAYNE - Dorothy G. Metcalf, age 88, of Cottage Grove, formerly of South Wayne, died peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Feb. 3, 1921, in Wayne Township, LaFayette County, the daughter of Herman and Emilie (Krupke) Fernstaedt. Dorothy married Lyle G. Metcalf on Dec. 13, 1942, in Browntown and together they farmed in South Wayne until 1974, before moving into the town of South Wayne. She then moved to Cottage Grove in 2004.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Larry (Mary) of Grand Marsh, Nancy Metcalf of Oxford and Dale (Gloria) of Madison; foster daughter, Yvonne Luy of Middleton; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Irvin (June) Fernstaedt of Monroe, Lester (Carole) Fernstaedt of Loves Park, Ill., Merlen (Mona) Fernstaedt of Argyle and Arden (Lois) Fernstaedt of Bonita Springs, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Bertha Fernstaedt of Baraboo; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Janan; brother, Glenn; and sister, Elda.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010 at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Road, Monona, with the Rev. David Byers Dent presiding. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Lena Cemetery, Lena, Ill., at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Memorials may be made to Big Spring Congregational Church Building Fund, Faith In Action of Adams County, HospiceCare Inc. or Monona United Methodist Church.
