ONALASKA, WI - Dorothy E. Schmiedlin, age 93, died Tuesday Feb. 1, 2011 at the Onalaska Care Center in Onalaska, WI. She was born Nov. 22, 1917 in Mt. Ida Township, rural Fennimore, WI to August and Hilda (Ruchti) Kreul. She married Ted Schmiedlin on April 7, 1949 in Nashua, IA.

Dorothy graduated from Fennimore High School in 1936. She went to work as a beautician at Ann's Beauty Shop in Monroe, WI for many years. She and Ted resided in Monroe most of their life until moving to Onalaska in 1982. While in Onalaska, Dorothy enjoyed volunteering for the RSVP for 15 years at the Onalaska Care Center, and helped with meals at the Onalaska Senior Center for many years. Dorothy's greatest joy was her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include two children: Mark "Dennis" Thompson (spouse Carole Thompson) of West Chester, OH and Linda (Dennis) Sobkowiak of Onalaska, WI; three grandchildren: Bill (Amy) Wilde of Mukwanago, WI; Wendy Jo (Chris Wagner) Wilde of Holmen, WI; and Stephanie Thompson of West Chester, OH; four great-grandchildren: Austin and Sierra Wilde, Ashley Wilde, and Carlee Jo Wagner; and two sisters: Eleanor Bauman of Onalaska, WI and Shirley Kreul of River Falls, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted in 1986, infant son Larry in 1940, son Dick in 1963, and a brother-in-law, Merle Bauman.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Onalaska, WI with Pastor Norris Baumann officiating. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the Prairie Cemetery in Fennimore, WI.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the church on Saturday morning. The Larson Family Funeral Home of Fennimore is assisting the family.
