Dexter J. Marchant, age 64 of Monroe, died peacefully on Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Monroe Clinic Hospital.
Dex was born January 31, 1945 in Monroe, the son of Mason and Aladene (Musser) Marchant.
He graduated from Juda High School in 1963 and entered the U.S. Navy on September 3, 1963. He served on the U.S.S. McCaffrey and toured 32 countries before his honorable discharge on Sept. 1, 1966. Dex married Kathy Dearth in 1969 and worked at Moore Business Forms for 25 years.
The last ten years Dex worked and resided with Greenco Industries and Supportive Living Services who were extremely dedicated in their care.
He was a member of Oakley Union United Methodist Church.
Dex was very family orientated and a marvelous father. He was an adventurer who loved the outdoors and was a gifted prankster.
He is survived by his two loving children, Mary Johnson and Dan Marchant, both of Monroe; two grandsons, Jason and Tyler Johnson; a brother, Emery (Marge) Marchant of Brodhead; two sisters, Winona Truong of Juda, and Grace (Ed) Gassen of Stoughton; and his aunt, Lorna Sullivan of Monroe.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kevin Marchant; and a nephew, Matthew "Miffy" Marchant.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, Monroe, with Monsignor Thomas Campion officiating. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Monday from 11 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials may be made in Dexter's name to the Apostolate to the Handicapped.
