MONROE - Green County Crime Stoppers now has the ability to accept tips by e-mail online or by texting from a cellular phone, according to a press release from Green County Crime Stoppers.

To submit information online, tipsters should go to http://greencountycrimestoppers.com, click under "here" in the online instructions and follow the formats for the online tip submission. To submit information by texting from a cellular phone, tipsters should text GREENTIP to 274637. All tips are encrypted, so callers always will remain anonymous. A Green County Crime Stoppers representative may reply to the tipster and request additional details.

The Green County Crime Stoppers Board of Directors has dedicated funding to enhance the program to receive tips online or by texting. Other organizations that have implemented the program have tripled the number of tips received, thereby solving more crimes and as a result, presenting more cash rewards. During the upcoming weeks and months, additional advertising will educate the community on how to submit tips online or by texting.

Questions may be directed to Green County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Jeff Skatrud at 328-9577, or Law Enforcement Coordinator Deputy Pam Tourdot at 328-9632.
