MONROE - The Monroe Police Department will increase traffic safety enforcement from March 13 to March 20 to combat drunken driving and increase seatbelt usage.
The Monroe Police Department received a $10,120 grant from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Safety to step up its enforcement of traffic safety.
Capt. Jim Kosek said the increased enforcement will help save lives and reduce injuries from traffic crashes.
"Our goal is to increase voluntary compliance with traffic safety laws," Kosek said. "It's not about writing more seatbelt tickets or make more drunken driving arrests."
Kosek said too many lives are damaged or destroyed needlessly by drunken driving and not wearing seatbelts.
"Any preventable traffic death or injury is one too many," he said.
