Clara A. Birk, age 89 of Monroe, died Monday, November 8, 2010 at her home. She was born on March 24, 1921 in Browntown, the daughter of Jacob and Lena (Thomet) Lauper. Clara attended Maple Grove School and Monroe High School. She married Joseph A. Birk on April 12, 1944 in Monroe. Clara worked alongside her husband making cheese at the Giese Cheese factory in rural Brodhead for 29 years. She was a member of St.Victors Catholic Church, Women of the Moose Chapter #599, Spring Grove Homemakers, Monroe Garden Club and numerous card clubs.
She is survived by her three children: Jerry (Dawn) Birk, James (Judy) Birk, and Sharon (Richard) Aurit, all of Madison; a sister, Hannah Broege of Monroe; 7 grandchildren: James (Ahren) Aurit, Brenda (Ty) Aurit Krugman, Christopher Birk, Rebecca (Nate) Birk Head, Jennifer Birk, Jaclyn Birk, and Melanie Birk; 6 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, William; sisters, Frieda Johnson and Mary Lauper.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Victors Catholic Church 1760 14th Street Monroe, with Fr. David Wanish Celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Monroe. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 12, 2010 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SHRINER HAGER GOHLKE Funeral Home 1455 Mansion Drive and 18th Ave. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.
