Felonies

• Jeremy A. Barnett-Diaz Jr., 20, Albany, was sentenced to nine months in jail and fined $9,351.58 Monday after pleading no contest to a Class F felony conviction of burglary and a Class H felony conviction of bail jumping. The former charge stemmed from an August 2014 incident in which he was involved in the theft of property from a residence in the N6500 block of English Settlement Road in the Town of Albany. The charge of bail jumping stemmed from a December 2014 incident in which Barnett-Diaz violated the terms of his bond by committing a crime, this time allegedly stealing items from a residence in the 400 block of North Mechanic Street while visiting a friend. Barnett-Diaz is also charged with a Class I felony count of theft, a Class I felony count of receiving stolen property and a Class H felony count of bail jumping from another incident in April. He will appear next in court on Dec. 18.

• James Leroy Cowell, 28, Monroe, pleaded no contest Tuesday to a Class E felony charge of delivering more than five grams of cocaine and a Class H felony charge of bail jumping. The charges stem from an incident on Dec. 11, 2014, when Cowell sold approximately eight grams of cocaine to an undercover officer of the Stateline Area Narcotics Teams in the 1600 block of 23rd Street in Monroe, less than 1,000 feet from Monroe High School. According to court records, this incident was the second in a series of four sales of purported cocaine to undercover officers throughout December 2014. Charges from the other sales were dismissed as part of Cowell's plea. These sales also violated a $9,000 signature bond Cowell signed in March 2014 after being charged with possession of cocaine, leading to the charge of bail jumping. Cowell will next appear in court Jan. 19, 2016, for a sentencing hearing.

• Mariano Velazco-Mariano, 26, Juda, was sentenced Monday to six months in jail and fined $2,077 after he pleaded no contest to a fourth-offense charge of driving while intoxicated, a Class H felony. The charge stems from an incident on June 19, 2011, when an officer witnessed him driving erratically on Wisconsin 11 in Brodhead. Velazco-Mariano was arrested on July 14, 2015 on a warrant after failing to appear in court. Charges of bail jumping were dismissed as part of his plea.
