FELONIES
Joseph Donald Fico, 30, Monroe, was charged Nov. 10 with a Class H felony count of identity theft after he used an acquaintance's debit card to make purchases and bank withdrawals totaling $554.22 in value in September. According to police reports, Fico had asked to borrow $80 from the acquaintance but subsequently used the acquaintance's card to make several unapproved purchases and withdrawals between Sept. 26 and 28. Fico's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4.
Trever Logan Martin, 23, Monroe, Kory Randall Costa, 21, Brooklyn, and Jean Erika Justice, 22, Monroe, were charged Monday with varying charges after a disorderly conduct incident on Nov. 12. Martin faces a Class F felony charge of possession with intent to distribute cocaine and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct. Costa faces a Class H count of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana. Justice was charged with a Class H felony count of battery to an officer and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, resisting an officer and criminal damage to property. The incident began after the three were kicked out of the Friendly Inn in Monroe for causing a disturbance. Police officers arrived outside the bar and accosted Costa, finding a bag of marijuana on his person. Costa attempted to flee but was stopped by officers. While Costa was being apprehended, Martin and Justice attempted to interfere, shouting at and impeding the officers. Justice, in particular, elbowed an officer and kicked him in the shins, leading to her arrest. Justice also kicked the door of a police car, denting it. Martin became angered and demanded to be detained as well, to which the officers obliged. However, when they searched Martin's person, they found 11 baggies containing a powdery substance, later determined to be 3.8 grams of cocaine. The three have a preliminary hearing scheduled Jan. 5.
Polly L. Prochaska, 53, Monticello, was charged Monday with a Class I felony count of growing marijuana after police found two marijuana plants on her property July 18. Police searched Prochaska's residence after receiving an anonymous complaint about marijuana plants on Prochaska's property. Although officers found two plants in Prochaska's garden, she claimed they were not hers and that she thought they were just weeds. Nevertheless, the plants displayed signs of careful cultivation, having seemingly been transplanted from flowerpots and regularly watered. Prochaska's initial court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 12.
