Felonies

• Tyler James Engelke, 19, Brodhead, pleaded guilty April 30 to a Class A misdemeanor charge of intentionally contributing to the delinquency of a child. A felony count of receiving stolen property was dismissed. Engelke is sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to pay restitution and court costs. The case will be expunged from his record if he complies with all probation conditions, under a state law that grants leniency to young offenders. Records indicate Engelke drove a minor girl to a residence in Brodhead in June 2014 with the intent to steal an envelope of coins. The girl broke into the home by cutting a mesh screen window and took an envelope filled with about $790 worth of coins. Engelke then took the coins to a bank and cashed them in. The girl told law enforcement she used the cash to buy clothes and marijuana.

• Mark Anthony Lang, 27, Belleville, was sentenced May 4 to 90 days in jail and 30 months of probation on a Class I felony count of delivering marijuana. Two additional counts were dismissed. His jail time will be reduced to 30 days if he completes 300 hours of community service within the first 27 months of probation. So far he has completed 16 hours of community service. He is also ordered to pay restitution and court costs and to undergo an alcohol- and drug-abuse evaluation and follow through with all recommendations. Court records indicate Lang sold a few grams of marijuana on three occasions in the parking lots of three Monroe businesses to an undercover officer with the State Line Area Narcotics Team.

Misdemeanors

• Joseph Ralph Berger, 49, Freeport, entered a 12-month deferred prosecution agreement May 1 for misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and intimidation of a victim, stemming from an alleged domestic abuse-related disturbance last July in the W6000 block of Loveland Road, Town of Washington. Misdemeanor charges of bail jumping and a second count of disorderly conduct were dismissed.

• Royce A. Cooley, 43, Footville, was charged May 5 with two Class A misdemeanor counts of bail jumping. A warrant is issued for his arrest. Court records indicate Cooley violated conditions of a signature bond on another case by being within three blocks of a Brodhead residence on at least two occasions in January.
