Clyde Lee Leverton, 43, Monroe, pleaded no contest May 11 to a Class H felony charge of aggravated battery and misdemeanor charges of criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia, stemming from a February 2014 incident in the Town of Exeter. Dismissed were related charges of disorderly conduct, strangulation, intimidation of a victim, negligent handling of burning material and false imprisonment, as well as charges from an arrest in January in Monroe of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Leverton is sentenced to three years of probation with the conditions that he have no contact with the victim and that he complete mental health counseling, anger management classes and alcohol- and drug-abuse treatment. Court records indicate Leverton beat a man at a residence in the W3000 block of Wis. 92, breaking his glasses, strangling him, threatening him with a piece of firewood, cutting his hands with a serrated kitchen knife and locking him in a bedroom while attempting to light a roll of paper towels on fire. The victim told police he feared for his life. Leverton told police the man had been molesting him for years, but the man denied these allegations. Police found a makeshift bong made out of aluminum foil in the kitchen.
