FELONIES

• A complaint was filed Thursday, March 22, against Douglas William Axelson, 26, Brodhead, on a felony charge of physical abuse of a child and a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct. The complaint indicates Axelson slapped a 16-year-old male in the face with an open hand and head-butted him in the eye, causing swelling and a goose egg, during a disturbance Tuesday, March 20, outside a residence in the 600 block of East Exchange Street in Brodhead.

MISDEMEANORS

• Sherri K. Downs, 42, Orangeville, Ill., pleaded no contest Monday, March 19, to writing a worthless check of $214.07 to Suisse Haus in Monroe in October 2009. The charge was originally filed as a Class A misdemeanor but downgraded to an ordinance violation. Downs has paid $368.19 in restitution.

• Martha E. Lisser, 46, Monroe, pleaded no contest Thursday, March 22, to a misdemeanor charge of possessing marijuana and was granted a 15-month deferred prosecution, on the conditions that she continue drug and alcohol counseling and attend quarterly monitoring conferences. The conviction stems from an arrest in October at a residence in the 2000 block of 9th Street, after police were dispatched for a welfare check. A charge of possessing drug paraphernalia was dismissed. She is fined $243.

• Stacie Marie Cromer, 23, Janesville, pleaded no contest Thursday, March 22, to driving while intoxicated (second offense) and was sentenced to 30 days in jail with work-release privileges. The court dismissed a misdemeanor charge of bail jumping, stemming from the same traffic arrest in April. The OWI charge was downgraded from a charge of OWI with a child under the age of 16. Cromer owes the court $1,298.
