Green County
Felonies
♦ Kyle R. Neuenschwander, 24, New Glarus, pleaded guilty Feb. 9 to a Class H felony charge of taking and driving a vehicle without consent and two counts of felony bail jumping. A Class F felony count of burglary, four additional counts of felony bail jumping and misdemeanor counts of theft, criminal damage to property and possession of drug paraphernalia were dismissed as part of a plea deal but "read in," meaning the judge could consider them in sentencing. Neuenschwander was sentenced to three years on probation, with conditions that he spend two months in jail and undergo alcohol and other drug treatment and counseling. He is eligible for Huber work-release from jail. The case stems from an incident March 7, 2017, in the 900 block of 1st Street in New Glarus. Neuenschwander's mother reported that her home's back door had been kicked in and her vehicle and keys stolen, according to court records. Neuenschwander was later found driving the stolen vehicle, with various syringes and tourniquets for injecting heroin in his possession. In written statements to the court, his parents asked for a longer sentence and no probation. They also asked for drug treatment as a condition of his sentence: "How about rehab or a halfway house in Green County?"
♦ Joseph L. Olson, 32, Brodhead, pleaded no contest Feb. 13 to misdemeanor charges of theft and credit card theft and was sentenced to two years on probation with conditions that he pay restitution and undergo any treatment or counseling his probation agent deems appropriate. Felony counts of burglary and misappropriating ID information were dismissed as part of a plea deal. Court records indicate Olson stole two purses July 3 from the employee break room at Dollar General in Brodhead, then took them to the store bathroom, where he removed cash and credit cards and then discarded the purses. He spent $465.67 using the cards at area businesses, mostly on cigarettes and alcohol. In a statement to the court, one of the victims wrote that the incident taught her to "be on your guard" and that "no matter where you work, it can happen."
♦ Christopher Michael Arn, 33, Monroe, pleaded no contest Feb. 14 to a Class A misdemeanor charge of resisting or obstructing an officer and two Class B misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct. A felony charge of possessing THC was dismissed, along with misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and bail jumping. He was sentenced to three months in jail with Huber work release as long as he reports and remains alcohol- and controlled substance-free. The charges stem from three domestic abuse-related incidents in 2017, according to court records, including an arrest Jan. 2 at his former residence in the 1500 block of 16th Avenue and again at the same residence Oct. 9 when he "barged" in and screamed at a woman.
