Green County Circuit Court
Felonies
Steven Tyler Wiegel, 28, Montello, pleaded guilty Dec. 20 to a Class F felony count of burglary and a Class A misdemeanor count of theft and was sentenced to six months in jail and five years on probation. Charges of theft, receiving or concealing stolen property and criminal damage to property were dismissed. The charges stem from two incidents, most recently a burglary of a home in the 500 block of West 21st Street in Monroe on Jan. 17, 2017. Court records indicate Wiegel and his co-defendant, Marie L. Carpenter, 29, Warren, Illinois, conspired to break into the trailer home and steal numerous items, including a television worth $200-300 and a torque wrench worth $500-600, then pawn them for cash. Carpenter pleaded no contest Jan. 10 to Class A misdemeanor charges of theft and criminal damage to property as a party to a crime and was sentenced to two years on probation. She also entered a deferred prosecution agreement on a Class F felony count of burglary. The earlier case against Wiegel stems from the theft of a Stihl chainsaw Oct. 26, 2016 from a location on County J in the Town of Monroe. Wiegel pawned the chainsaw in Madison.
