FELONIES
Paul Charles Nangle, 29, Lone Rock, was charged Jan. 3 with a Class H felony count of strangulation and suffocation and misdemeanor charges of battery and disorderly conduct after an incident on Jan. 2 when he was accused of assaulting a woman in the W8100 block of Prairie View Road, Town of Adams. According to a police report, the incident started as a purely verbal altercation before Nangle seized the woman from behind and wrapped an arm around her throat. After the assault, police observed markings and abrasions around the woman's throat and wrist. When police contacted Nangle, he recommended that police search his house for drugs, to protect his children, before turning himself in. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 15. The maximum possible sentence for his charges is three years in prison.
Thomas Jon Ott, 49, Monroe, was charged between Jan. 3 and Jan. 11 with seven Class H felony counts of bail jumping after a pair of incidents on Dec. 29 and Jan. 10. In the December incident, Ott was discovered with a preliminary blood alcohol level of .22, in violation of a 2016 bond from a domestic assault case, and the bonds of two subsequent cases where he similarly violated that first bond. Ott then violated all three of those bonds, plus his bond from the December incident, when he attempted to contact the victim of the domestic assault case in Monroe, another bond violation. Ott's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 26. The maximum possible sentence for these charges is 21 years in prison.
Demetrius White, 20, Chicago, was charged Jan. 9 with a Class H felony count of identity theft and misdemeanor counts of obtaining a prescription drug through fraud and possession of a controlled substance. White was charged after an incident on Jan. 5 at Walgreens in Monroe, when he attempted to obtain the narcotics amoxicillin, albuterol and promethazine with codeine using another person's prescription information. According to a police report, White had attempted to fill the same prescription hours earlier at the Monroe Walmart, but was denied. White claimed he was trying to obtain the drugs on behalf of a friend who was unable to do so, but was arrested. He faces a maximum possible sentence of three years in prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 3.
