Felonies
David A. Burgos, 22, Monroe, was sentenced March 28 to 18 months in prison and one year of extended supervision for violating his probation on a 2010 Class I felony conviction of possessing marijuana with intent to deliver. He is owed 557 days of sentence credit. Court records indicate he repeatedly violated his probation by driving without a valid license, committing hit-and-run traffic crashes in Monroe and getting kicked out of a halfway house in Rock County for being disrespectful to staff, smoking in the bathroom and swearing. His original offense stems from a search warrant executed on a residence in the 1500 block of 20th Avenue on Jan. 22, 2010. Drug agents seized 37.8 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
Devin L. Robinson, 28, Milwaukee, pleaded guilty April 4 to a Class F felony charge of burglary and was sentenced to five years of probation with the conditions that he pay any due restitution, maintain employment and not drink. Court records indicate Robinson broke into a home Oct. 30 in the N9100 block of Hillcrest Road in Belleville, damaging the door, and stole a 2012 class ring, a "300" bowling ring and a small Asus Netbook computer.
Orrin Hoyt Marsden, 20, Monroe, pleaded no contest April 5 to misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property in May 2011 and of theft and criminal damage to property stemming from a home burglary in July 2011. A felony charge of burglary and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and resisting/obstructing an officer were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. He was sentenced to 30 days in jail and two years of probation. He is also ordered to do 75 hours of community service, undergo an assessment for abuse of alcohol and other drugs, and not drink. Court records indicate that in July 2011 Marsden and another man, Jerod E. Sandlin, Brodhead, broke into a residence in the W300 block of County E in Decatur Township and stole numerous beer steins and collector glasses, bottles of alcohol, a bass guitar, scuba diving equipment, camping gear, china, crystal dishes and a turntable, plus cut out and removed all the copper piping in the home's plumbing and furnace systems. Sandlin has his plea and sentencing hearing April 18.
Bryan Scott Adams, 41, Monticello, was charged April 8 with felony bail jumping. Court records indicate he was drinking alcohol on April 7 at his home on Madison Street in Monticello, in violation of a $1,000 cash bond and $9,000 signature bond on September charges of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery and disorderly conduct. His bail hearing is April 10 and his preliminary hearing is April 16.
Misdemeanors
Jeffrey R. Blum, 48, Monroe, pleaded no contest April 5 to a forfeiture charge of possessing drug paraphernalia, a pot pipe, on Jan. 26 at his home in the 1900 block of 7th Avenue. He was fined $263.50. A misdemeanor charge of possessing drug paraphernalia, stemming from the same incident, was dropped.
Jeanie L. Smith, 47, Monroe, pleaded no contest March 28 to forfeiture charges of disorderly conduct and hit-and-run on property, both stemming from an incident Dec. 6. A misdemeanor charge of resisting/obstructing an officer and several traffic citations were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Court records indicate Smith yelled and swore at and scratched her estranged husband in a home in the 1100 block of 13th Avenue, then crashed his red 2001 Dodge Ram truck, hitting Fireside Books, 1110 15th Ave., Monroe, and abandoned the damaged truck there. She owes the court $444.
James J. Wittrock, 49, Stoughton, pleaded no contest March 28 to a misdemeanor third-offense charge of driving while intoxicated on June 16, 2012. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail and ordered to pay $1,928. The conviction stems from an arrest on North Mechanic Street in Albany. He was found to be driving with a blood alcohol level between 0.17 and 0.199 percent and with three passengers, two of whom were children, ages 11 and 15. Wittrock's license is revoked 28 months and he is ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol abuse.
Charges of disorderly conduct, battery and bail jumping were dismissed without prejudice on April 5 against Nicholas M. Gowen, 25, Monroe. The charges stem from a dispute in April 2012 with the then-pregnant mother of his child. In dismissing the charges, the court indicates the couple have since undergone counseling individually and together, and Gowen has sole custody of their child. Also on April 5, Gowen pleaded no contest to a criminal traffic charge of driving with a revoked license and was fined $379.
Matthew G. Marty, 21, Monticello, pleaded no contest April 5 to a first-offense forfeiture charge of driving while intoxicated and was fined $754.50. Misdemeanor charges of possessing a controlled substance (seven pills of Lorazepam) and one pill of amphetamine were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. The charges stem from a traffic stop Oct. 28 on County C near Hammerly Lane in Mount Pleasant Township. Marty's license is revoked seven months and he's ordered to undergo an assessment for alcohol abuse.
Richard Emil Hartwig, 50, Monroe, was granted a one-year stay of proceedings April 8 for misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and battery. The charges will be fully dismissed in one year if he complies with any court orders and doesn't break the law. Court records indicate on Oct. 12 and 19 at a residence on Benkert Road, Hartwig was verbally and physically abusive to a woman, leaving her with bruising.
Issa N. Mazahreh, 33, Monroe, was granted a stipulation and order April 8 for a deferral of proceedings on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct, battery and sending threatening texts. The charges stem from an incident Jan. 6 in the 800 block of 25th Avenue, Monroe. Court records indicate he hit and kicked his estranged wife, sent her threatening texts and threw a small metal trampoline at her, causing her bruising.
