Carl Raymond Steinbach, 81, of Monroe, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, July 18, 2016 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. He was born the son of Fred F. Steinbach and Gertrude (Wilbat) on April 18, 1935 in Chicago, Ill.
Carl attended Lakeview High School in Chicago and earned both Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Electrical Engineering at the University of Illinois in Champaign. For over 40 years, he was employed at various positions at many locations in Engineering and Facilities Management for Motorola, Inc. in Illinois and Florida.
He honorably served his country as an Airman Third Class, Res. Air Force of the United States.
He was very active in the Monroe community since he and Linda arrived in 1992. He volunteered for many years at St. Vincent de Paul. Seventeen years ago when the AARP Foundation TAX-AIDE program was first offered at the Monroe Senior Center, Carl had the technical expertise to set up the complete computer system to service the clients. He also wrote funding grant proposals for the program, and prepared tax returns and filed them with the IRS for the clients through the ensuing years. His enthusiasm and skills are described by a colleague as "having made an invaluable contribution to the program and community."
Carl was an outgoing, unpretentious, and warm kind of man, making you feel comfortable with him right away. His genuineness and enjoyment of humor found him many friends. His deep and nonjudgmental love for his children was rivaled only by his pride in them.
Carl is survived by his former wife and mother of his children, Betty Steinbach of Brentwood, TN; long-time friend and partner, Linda Mayer who lives in Monroe, WI with their horses, dogs, cats, and birds; sons, Scott, who is a physician and lives in Atlanta, GA with his wife, Darlene, and Peter, who is an IT Specialist and lives in Maryville, TN with his wife, Sharon and their two sons, Brennan and Grayson; and daughter, Lynn Le, formerly an adult nurse practitioner with an MBA in health care in Illinois, who lives in Brentwood, TN with her husband, Son Le, who is a physician, and with their sons, Andre, Marcus, William, and daughter, Katrina. Carl is further survived by his brother, Fred F. Steinbach of Chicago, Illinois, who lives with his wife, Sharon and their children, Robert, Steven, Melissa and Mark; and a sister, Adele. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is assisting the family.
