NEW GLARUS - An idling car stolen from outside a gas station in New Glarus earlier this week was recovered Thursday, July 26, in Lafayette County.

The black 2007 Chrysler Sebring was found in Blackhawk Memorial Park along County Y in the Town of Wiota at 6:35 p.m., according to officers with the New Glarus Police Department and Lafayette County Sheriff's Department.

The vehicle was undamaged and returned to the owner.

The thief drove off with it after the owner left it idling outside the New Glarus BP, 719 Wisconsin 69, at about 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 24.

There are no leads or suspects in the case, according to Sgt. Jeff Sturdevant of New Glarus police. He said none of the surveillance cameras at the gas station were able to capture video tape of a suspect in the theft.

Witnesses reported seeing an unidentified man in his 50s lingering around the gas station before the vehicle was taken.

Anyone with information on the case may call the New Glarus police dispatch at 527-2145.
