Byron F. Hartwig, age 92, a long time Green County farmer, died on Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Monroe Manor.
Byron was born February 26, 1919 in Clarno Township, Green County, Wisconsin, the son of William F. and Clara (Trumpy) Hartwig. He attended E. Clarno Rural School and Monroe High School. Byron married Clarice Erickson on September 29, 1945 in Monroe. He farmed in Clarno and Jefferson Township all his life.
Byron was a long time member of East Clarno Zion United Methodist Church, Green County Farm Bureau, National Holstein Assoc., and was a former Fairfield 4H leader and Independent Order of Odd Fellows member.
He was a Green County Fair stockholder and never missed attending the summer event. Byron was a strong Wisconsin sports fan who especially enjoyed watching the Brewers.
He is survived by two children, William E. Hartwig of Monroe, and Nancy Hartwig of Madison; his nephew, Nathan (Donna) Hartwig of Monroe; and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clarice, in 2000; and a brother, Kenneth Hartwig, in 1996.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at 11:00 a.m., at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Paul Gregersen of the East Clarno Zion United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Monroe, followed by a luncheon at the Monroe V.F.W. Post #2312. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A memorial fund will be established in Byron's name for the East Clarno Church.
