Betty J. McGranahan, age 82 of Darlington, WI, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at Lafayette Manor in Darlington. She was born January 27, 1926 in Wiota township, Lafayette County, WI, the daughter of Ernest M. and Ethel D. (Putnam) Olson. Betty graduated in 1943 from Argyle High School in Argyle, WI. She was united in marriage to Walter W. "Billie" McGranahan at West Wiota Lutheran Church. Betty lived in Wiota until her marriage when she and Billie began farming on the McGranahan family farm in Fayette township. In 1953 they moved into the city of Darlington where Betty and Billie owned and operated the Trading Post. She later managed the restaurant at the Hotel in downtown Darlington, waitressed at Mac's Cafe' and lastly as a dietary supervisor at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington until her retirement.
Betty is survived by three daughters: Pat (Thomas) Stauffacher, Sally (Mike) McDermott and Kris (Sam) Glanzman, all of Darlington; one brother: Elton (Sandy) Olson of Cherry Valley, IL; two sisters: Georgina Cullen of Gratiot, WI and Beverly Heggesta of Madison, WI; twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren; one sister-in-law: Doris McGinnis of Darlington; one brother-in-law: Dan Guadagno of Darlington. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Billie, on October 1, 1960; one daughter: Nancy Ostby on February 5, 2000; one son: Larry on April 9, 2002; three grandchildren: Penny Niles, Mark Stauffacher and Bill McGranahan; one sister: Eleanor Guadagno; two brothers: Everett and Larry Olson.
Betty was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Darlington. She enjoyed spending time with and baking for her grandchildren, reading, working crossword puzzles, going to the boat and shopping with her granddaughter at Wal-Mart. She will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Grace Lutheran Church, Darlington with Rev. Denise Anderson of Faith Lutheran Church, Cuba City, WI officiating. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery, Darlington. A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 20, 2008 at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington.
