Bertha Vinger, age 97, of Appleton, WI, formerly of Argyle, WI, passed away Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at Heartwood Homes Senior Living in Appleton. She was born May 11, 1916, at Puddledock Cheese Factory in Green County, WI, the daughter of Carl and Barbara (Tschudy) Wenger, Sr. Following her graduation from Monroe High School in 1934 and Madison Business College in 1935, Bertha worked as a dental assistant in Argyle. She married Lawrence Vinger on February 20, 1937 at Adams Lutheran Church and lived in Argyle throughout their 72 years together. Bertha has been a resident in an assisted living home in Appleton, WI since June 2010.

Bertha is survived by four daughters: Barbara (William) Bowen of Rockford, IL, Lorraine (Robert) Jeffus of Bellevue, NE, Debra (John) Carew of Appleton, and Denise (John "Ted") Parrish of Eden Prairie, MN; one son: David Vinger of Madison, WI; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Retrum of Richland Center, WI; and two sisters-in-law: Edna Wenger of Argyle and Ruth Wenger of New Glarus, WI. Bertha was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers: Carl Wenger, Jr. and Walter Wenger; a brother-in-law, Robert Retrum; and a sister-in-law, Olga Vinger.

Most important to Bertha was to provide a healthy and nurturing home atmosphere for her children. She served as 4-H club leader and was an ardent supporter of all her children's activities. The Vinger's were active members of Argyle Lutheran Church and Bertha its Ladies Aide. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and Swiss music.

The family deeply appreciates the staff of Heartwood Home of Appleton and the many friends and family in Argyle who helped Bertha in the final years of her extraordinary, long and happy life.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Argyle Lutheran Church, 100 East Street in Argyle with Rev. Rick Fry officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle. A visitation will be held Friday, October 18, 2013, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home, 801 East Milwaukee Street in Argyle.
