Belva M. Zwygart

Belva M. Zwygart, age 100, passed away on October 3, 2016. She was born on July 22, 1916 to Charles and Margaret (Indergand) Goecks, the seventh of eight children. The family resided on the family farm in Monroe Township. Belva graduated from Monroe High School and then went to work for The Monroe Times.

On May 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to Doran R. Zwygart at St. John's United Church of Christ, and they were married 68 years before Doran's passing. Belva was a devoted Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. She was a house wife and gave many hours of service to the community and to her church. Belva was a life-long member of St. John's Church serving two terms on the church council, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school and being a member of the Mary Circle. She served on the hospital auxiliary for 23 years and was a Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout Den Mother. She was a member of the Monroe Woman's Club since 1948 with Christmas Stocking being her favorite activity, serving as a co-chair with her sister, Grace Holtshopple, for many years. Belva was also an active American Legion Auxiliary member and served as President. She enjoyed being a member of the Monroe Country Club and playing bridge with friends for over 60 years.

Belva is survived by her children De Paulson, Marshall (Bub) Zwygart and wife Lori, Mary Zwygart-Stauffacher and husband Paul. She is also survived by grandchildren Jill (Chris) Cass, Lynne (Kent) Hendrickson, Kerri (Shawn) Steinmann, Andy Zwygart, Becky (Trey) Batten, Dan (Shelly) Zwygart, Ryan Heaslip and Cortney (Jim) Covers. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Shelby, Jenna and Jarred Cass; Cooper and Tatum Hendrickson; Ella and Carter Steinmann; Lauren, Hugh and Julia Batten; Doran and Finley Zwygart and Tucker Heaslip. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.

Belva was preceded in death by her husband, Doran, son-in-law Paul Paulson, a special nephew Allan Holtshopple, her parents and siblings Frieda Kundert, Fredric Goecks, Hazel Rutsch, Grace Holtshopple, Sally Hoesly, Herbert Goecks and Marian Ackermann.

Belva devoted her life to her family. She loved her time with them and times she and Doran spent traveling with friends and wintering for many years in Arizona.

Funeral services will be Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ with Rev. Todd Hackman officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's United Church of Christ, Monroe Woman's Club Christmas Stocking, and Monroe Clinic Hospice House.
