Alton R. Schumacher, age 88 of Monroe, Wisconsin died Thursday, September 15, 2011 at Pleasant View Nursing Home. He was born on February 9, 1923, in Cadiz Township the son of Carl and Emma (Haeft) Schumacher. He attended Browntown and Monroe schools. Alton entered the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater, where he met his future wife Margarete in Vienna, Austria. Margarete Chocholous and Alton were married on June 30, 1947. He worked for the Green County Highway Department for 37 years and was a member of the Zilmer Riley American Legion Post# 84.

He is survived by his wife, Margarete of Monroe; daughter, Susan (Gary) Hopp of Appleton; son, Alton (Eva) Schumacher Jr. of Vienna, Austria. He is predeceased by his parents, sisters, Helen Demanouske and Marian Schumacher.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 11:00 A.M. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Monroe, with Rev. David Busker officiating. The Shriner-Hager-Gohlke Funeral Home is serving the family.
