Alfred Schild, age 95, of Olympia, WA, formerly of Las Vegas, NV, and Argyle, WI, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at the home of his daughter, Mary Jane Setterstrom, where he lived for the past 12 years. He was born October 16, 1917 in Switzerland the son of Henry and Elizabeth Schild. Alfred celebrated his 7th birthday on a ship, while coming to America. He made cheese at both Apple Grove and Argyle Cheese Factories before owning and operating Riverside Tap in Argyle. Following the sale of his bar, he worked in multiple capacities for the Village of Argyle. He was united in marriage to Vivian Zimmerman. They were blessed with their one and only daughter, Gayle. Following his divorce from Vivian, Alfred was united in marriage to Vada Hustis in 1951. They were blessed with three children: Debra, David, and Mary Jane. In 1985, Alfred and Vada moved to Las Vegas, NV, where he learned to golf and enjoyed playing it about three times a week. After Vada's death in 2012, he was invited to live with his daughter, Mary Jane and her husband, John. Alfred continued his love for golf with them for several more years.

Alfred is survived by his three children: Gayle (Roger) Saalsaa of Madison, WI, Debra Penniston of Wasilla, AK, and Mary Jane (John) Setterstrom of Olympia; his eight grandchildren: Raynold (Valerie) Saalsaa of Argyle, Julie (Curt) Moran of Portage, WI, Renee (Greg) Boyce of Madison, Curtis (Jill) Saalsaa of Argyle, Harlan Saalsaa of Verona, WI, Thomas (Britney) Saalsaa of Bolingbrook, IL, Lance (Jeanne) Penniston of Mukwonago, WI, and Adam (Stephanie) Setterstrom of Olympia; ten great-grandchildren: Amanda (Kyle) Minks, Taylor Saalsaa, Carson Saalsaa, Rachel Saalsaa, Hannah Saalsaa, Kelsee Saalsaa, Jadyn Saalsaa, Deante Seals, Celeste Setterstrom, and Whitney Setterstrom; his brother: Otto (Gladys) Schild of Monroe, WI; two sisters-in-law: Leni Schild of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Gladys Severson of Blanchardville, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Vada; his son: David; two brothers: Walter and Henry; one sister in infancy; and one brother-in-law: Laurence Severson.

Alfred was a member of the Argyle Fire Department and EMS for many years. He bowled on a number of leagues and was an avid sports fan, particularly baseball.

Burial was held in Woodlawn Cemetery in rural Argyle. The Erickson Funeral Home in Argyle is serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed to the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com.
