JANESVILLE — A Rock County man was charged with his 10th operating a motor vehicle under the influence charge after state police say they stopped him on Interstate 39/90 south of Janesville.
Bruce T. Henningfield, 63, of Winnebago in Wisconsin, was arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol at about 4:05 p.m. on Friday, Jan 12.
According to a news release, the arrest came after state troopers responded to reports of a reckless driver southbound on I-39/90 near Janesville.
“Troopers located the vehicle after it slid off the highway,” the statement said. “Troopers investigating the vehicle determined the driver exhibited signs of impairment.”
After an investigation, Henningfield was arrested on the OWI charge.
He was also charged with driving while revoked and operating without an ignition interlock device, police said.
According to court records, his most recent arrest occurred in 2020 in Dane County. For that OWI, a felony, Henningfield was sentenced to seven years in state prison, followed by five years of supervised release. He also qualified at that time for substance abuse treatment while incarcerated.
However, the defendant apparently qualified for early release and left custody of the Department of Corrections last October. Henningfield served part of that sentence at Red Granite Correction Institution, a medium-security facility in Waushara County, records show.
In 2012, he also was charged and found guilty of felony OWI — 10 or more offenses — and sentenced to seven years in prison. At that time, he also was charged with misdemeanor resisting or obstructing police.
