Juda Fire

JUDA — A barn and shed on fire were reported at about 6 p.m. May 3 in the area of Stateline Road and Freeport Road. A passing neighbor reported the fire. Both buildings were fully engulfed when firefighters arrived and are a total loss. The barn had not been used for years and was empty. Firefighters were on scene about two hours. The cause of the fire was undetermined.

Monroe Fire

MONROE — A fire outside the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store, 501 1st Ave., was reported at about 9 p.m. May 3. A nearby trucker called it in. It turned out to be a smoldering five-gallon bucket being used as a can for cigarette butts at the far northeast corner of the building.
