MONROE - Colony Brands Inc. will be opening an inventory warehouse in Sun Prairie that could eventually employ hundreds.

The Monroe-based company signed a long-term lease on a 427,000-square-foot building in Sun Prairie Nov. 1. The building, formerly used as a distribution center, is located on 18 acres of land at 1615 Commerce Drive.

The building will be used as an inventory warehousing operation when the company takes possession of it later this year, according to Joe Hunter, vice president of Human Resources and Operations.

Approximately 15 employees will staff the facility in the early stages of the facility's build-out. Eventually the function of the Sun Prairie facility will change from a warehousing operation to a distribution center with hundreds of employees, the company said in a news release.

Customer orders for Colony Brands food-related businesses, including The Swiss Colony, Wisconsin Cheeseman, and Tender Filet, are distributed from the Monroe fulfillment operation. Orders from the company's general merchandise catalogs such as Seventh Avenue, Ginny's, Monroe & Main, Home at Five, Country Door, and Midnight Velvet are filled at facilities in Monroe and Madison, as well as in Clinton and Peosta, Iowa.

As company sales have grown over the years, additional space has been required to meet customers' needs.
