MONROE - The City of Monroe Street Department has released its spring cleanup alternatives for residents.

Because of budget constraints and cost overruns for winter street maintenance, the city canceled this year's Spring Clean-up Days. The city has lined up a series of special dropoff dates to help residents rid their homes of unwanted items.

BULKY WASTE COLLECTION>

Any solid waste, which, due to its composition, weight, or bulk, cannot be effectively collected and transported must have a "Bulky Waste Sticker." This includes furniture, appliances, toilets, carpeting, swing sets, etc.

These items can be designated for pickup at any time of the year by filing a form at City Hall or the Street Department explaining what the item is and when it will be placed on the curb for collection.

Residents must purchase a Bulky Waste Sticker, issued and paid for at City Hall or the Street Department, and affix it to the item for pickup. The pickup date usually is on your regular garbage/recycle collection date. Bulky waste items will not be picked up at the curb without a Bulky Waste Sticker.

The cost of a Bulky Waste Sticker varies according to the item:

Refrigerators, freezers - >$50 each

Air conditioning units - >$40 each

Dehumidifiers - >$35 each

Washers, dryers, stoves, water heaters and dishwashers - >$20 each

Tires - >$5 each

Household furniture and fixtures, including carpeting, toilets, sinks - >$10 each or $20 per hour
