MONROE - Vickie Schnitzler will present "Introduction to the Civil War Ancestral Certificate Program: How to Complete Ancestral Certificate Application" at The Green County Genealogical Society meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Monroe Public Library upper level, 925 16th Ave., Monroe.
Schnitzler has been researching her family history for more than 20 years and has found several Civil War ancestors while working on her family tree. Besides working on her own research, she has helped many others pursue their genealogical endeavors and has most recently helped the city of Marshfield index cemeteries within the city limits, helping them to create an online searchable index.
She will take attendees through the process of how to complete the application for both linear and collateral ancestors by using her ancestors as examples. Schnitzler will also touch upon strategies on how and where to find verification that an ancestor was a Wisconsin Civil War Veteran. Attendees are encourage to bring along information on their Civil War ancestors, as well as questions.
Chris Klauer, administrative assistant for the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society will also be on hand to answer questions about The Wisconsin State Genealogy Society.
Refreshments and a social hour will follow the program, which is free and open to the public. A board meeting at the GCGS Research Center will follow at 1 p.m.
