MONROE - On Monday, May 5, the City of Monroe Public Safety Committee:

• Approved the Main Street Design Committee's request to install a bicycle rack in the southeast corner of the downtown parking ramp. The rack will accommodate seven bikes and will be set in cement. Police Chief Fred Kelley told the committee extra signage will need to be installed to direct bikers from the authorized bike route to the racks and to prevent them from traveling the wrong way on 17th Avenue, a one-way street.

• Approved allowing the Public Works Department to install signage and to paint curbs to prevent parking on a portion of the 900 block of Ninth Street that has caused problems of blocking a driveway at 927 Ninth St. Kelley said parking is not allowed within 4 feet of a driveway and within 15 feet of a cross walk.

• Recommended to council to approve the Monroe Area Rebel Soccer Dribble Across Wisconsin MAYSA Day on May 10 at Honey Creek Park; the Pregnancy Center of Green County Walk for Life on May 10; and the American Legion Memorial Day Parade and Service on May 26.
