MONROE - On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Monroe City Council:

• Set a public hearing date of Sept. 2 for an ordinance regarding off-street parking spaces, to include an exemption in conditional uses circumstances. It would allow parking spaces to be less than the required 9.5 feet wide or 18 feet long.

• Approved rezoning of parts of Monroe Clinic and Hospital property.

• Authorized hiring Stephanie Bachim as the replacement deputy treasurer/account clerk effective Aug. 18, at a probationary rate of $14.40 per hour.

• Approved claims in the amount of $576,393.06.

• Approved special event permits for Main Street Concerts on the Square, Aug. 14 and 28; Monroe Girls youth softball tournament, Aug. 8-10; Southern Wisconsin Northern Illinois Fire Rescue Association School, Aug. 14-17; Monroe Youth Hockey Music Concert, Sept. 20.

• Authorized the installation of a marked pedestrian crossing in the middle of the 1200 block of 14th Avenue.

• Granted electrical contractor licenses to Donald L. Tuescher, Dean Noethe and Ron Lentz; electrical journeyman licenses to Steve DeBaker, Daniel R. Kelly, Joshua Bryson, Rodney L. Kurschner, Steven M. McQuaid, Stephen E. Tuescher, Chip McNett, Richard J. Tuescher, Steven C. Jorenby, Dave Oyen and Richard A. Baebler; electrical appliance dealer license to Fred Block, Operator License to Nicholas R. Bergum, Linda M. Burkhalter, Jakup Idrizi, Angela G. Wilhite, Mary J. Hamilton, Lori L. Hawkins, Lori L. Voegli, Lisa Allman, Dustiin Meier and Charis C. Turner; carnival license to Green County Cheese Days, Sept. 19-21; dance license to Green County Cheese Days, Sept. 19-21.

• Granted a Class "B" restaurant fermented malt beverage license and a Class "C" wine license to the owners of Barrett's Brick Cafe, LLC for their premises located at 1015 18th Ave., unit 113, effective today.

• Granted a temporary Class "B" license to Green County Beef Producers in conjunction with a steak supper Aug. 14 at SLICE. Underage persons are allowed on the premises.

• Approved an amendment to premises description for Suisse Haus, Inc. for a beer garden Sept. 19-21, to temporarily include a parking lot on their property at the south side of their building.

• Accepted bids and awarded a contract to Monroe Heating & Sheet Metal, Inc., Monroe, for $62,112, for a replacement boiler for city hall.

• Approved a change order for the SCADA System.• Voted 8-2 to table a vote on the resolution designating a Downtown Historic District, adopting the plan and directing implementation. Aldermen Keith Ingwell and Jan Lefevre voted against the motion to table.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Finance & Taxation Committee:

• Denied an extra payment of $924 for front door project at the Senior Center. The committee agreed the cost is the responsibility of the general contractor.

On Tuesday, Aug. 5, the Salary & Personnel Committee:

• Voted to allow department heads to terminate probationary periods for new employees by presenting a letter for Salary & Personnel Committee approval.

• Voted to allow department heads to start the process of rehiring replacement employees without Salary & Personnel approval, but S&PC and City Council will give final approval when final candidates have been selected.
