City band seeks members

MONROE - The Monroe City Band will begin its 62nd season of free public concerts starting at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 6 at the Twining Park bandshell. The band is currently rehearsing for the summer season and is seeking new members, particularly in the trumpet and percussion sections.

The band, which is a part of the Monroe Park and Recreation Department, plays a series of concerts under the stars for the entertainment of the community. This summer's concerts will continue on June 20, July 4, July 18 and Aug. 1, with a Sunday evening concert July 31 in Brodhead.

Repertoire includes traditional "park band" marches, overtures and other classical band pieces, along with more contemporary music. For more information on the concert schedule or joining the band, contact director Randy Schneeberger at (608) 325-9722.
