JANESVILLE - Blackhawk Technical College is teaming with the Southwest Wisconsin Workforce Development Board to assist students planning to complete their GED this year, which is the last year before the GED significantly changes.
Students who have yet to begin the GED process or students who are interested in finishing their GED this year can attend a general information session at the BTC Beloit or Monroe campuses, or at the Rock County Job Center to establish eligibility.
Four four-hour general information sessions are scheduled to help individuals determine if they qualify for this program. Qualified participants will receive accelerated instruction at BTC and be able to complete the five GED tests at no cost to them. Books, meals and calculators will also be provided.
The assessment and general information sessions are scheduled:
- From 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at BTC-Monroe, 210 4th Ave.
- From 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8 at BTC-Beloit Center, 50 Eclipse Center.
- From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 10 at the Rock County Job Center, 1900 Center Ave., Janesville.
- From 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, May 17 at the Rock County Job Center.
Since funding is available through the State of Wisconsin Workforce Investment Act, WIA enrollment is required. SWWDB staff will assist applicants in the process. Applicants will need to provide a Wisconsin driver's license or a state ID.
If accepted, program participants qualify for fast track daytime preparation classes at the Rock County Job Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. May 21 through May 31 or in the evening at BTC-Monroe and BTC-Beloit from 4:30 to 9 p.m. May 29 through June 20. Space is limited to 15 participants.
Those interested in the program must register in advance by contacting Wendy Schultz at 608-757-7726 or at wschultz@blackhawk.edu.
