BRODHEAD - The Brodhead Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the 2013 Tour the Farms Day from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 11 at several Brodhead area farms.
Those who attend the event will learn where food comes from and what it takes to raise crops and livestock.
The event will start downtown at the Best of Brodhead, 905 10th St. There will be a map to the participating farms.
Participating farms include:
n Kinkoona Farm, 16734 W. Dorner Road. Kinkoona Farm is home to a permaculture sheep farm that specializes in wool products and provides specialized day camp opportunities throughout the summer. Information is available by calling 608-897-3983 or at www.baabaashop.com.
n Scotch Hill Farm, 910 S. Scotch Hill Road. Scotch Hill Farm has a small milking goat herd, an organic vegetable Community Supported Agriculture that delivers vegetables weekly to subscribers throughout the growing season and handcrafted soaps made on the farm. n Ten Eyck Apple Orchard, W968 Highway 11 and 81. The orchard includes a honey operation.
n Sugar Maple Emu Farm, W805 Pedee Road. The emu farm is home to emus, chickens, Katahdin sheep, along with two Akbash, and one Maremma, which are livestock guardian dogs.
